Kenneth couldn't have had a better time in Texas. Debbie & Nancy showed him a good time and sent him home with a new RUBIX game, as well as a new chess set.

These are photos from a couple of weekends ago when Kenneth & I went to Texas. We met Shauna there, and we had lots of fun. I did not take a camera, so the photos I have were all taken at Debbie & Nancy's place in Taylor.

The First time

 

Caitlin has been going to pre-school, and they write their names every day. Yesterday during one of the soccer games I worked with her on her name (using her leg), but today I gave her a pen and paper. What do you think??? 3 years and 3 months old, baby - right on par with her oldest brother. :)

News

 

This is one of our first crabs we CAUGHT this morning. We caught 2 crabs, but the other one took a beating in the bucket on the way home. We caught 3 HUGE star fish, too, but we threw those back (they are pests because they cover your bait and then the crab won't come on/in your trap). I wish we'd had a camera to take pictures of those. They were seriously the biggest star fish I've ever seen in my life. Wowee. Hopefully this will be the first of many successful crabbing adventures.

 

Remember that photo of Caitlin I posted yesterday? The one with the cute hair-do? Yea, well, her hair's gone now. I cut it this morning. I LOVE it! I was ready for a change, and I think it's so cute on her.

This is Daniel's birthday party this afternoon. He had Alison and Nathan from school and Tanner from church. Tanner's little sister, Sydney, stayed for the fun as well. We had a great time. Daniel requested a chocolate cake with whipped cream on top. Yum.

Book Recommendation

I highly recommend the book "West With the Night" by Beryl Markham. Beryl lived from 1902 - 1986 and grew up in East Africa. She is an incredible writer. On the back of the copy I'm reading there is this quote from ERNEST HEMMINGWAY: "...she has written so well, and marvelously well, that I was completely ashamed of myself as a writer. I felt that I was simply a carpenter with words, picking up whatever was furnished on the job and nailing them together and sometimes making an okay pig pen. But [she] can write rings around all of us who consider ourselves as writers..." Is that high praise, or what? Here are 2 of my favorite quotes so far:

"God makes fat birds and small birds, trees that are wide and trees that are thin, like wattle. He makes big kernels and little kernels. I am a big kernel. One does not argue with God."

"If a man has any greatness in him, it comes to light, not in one flambouant hour, but in the ledger of his daily work."

By the way - while we're on the subject of NAMES...I am so annoyed that Cuddy named her baby in "House" last night JOY. Yeesh. Now I know how Julie felt when Rachel on "Friends" named her baby EMMA. How annoying. They should NOT be able to broadcast your unique, creative name on National Television, thereby infusing it into the mind of every pregnant or pregnant-to-be woman out there!
